A lot of people, even if they’ve heard of Jiu-Jitsu envision it as a hard martial art or a very competitive sport.
My goal as the head martial arts director / instructor with Git Right SPF and Git Right MMA here in Whittier is to try to challenge that perception in my own small way.
What I propose is utilizing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as a way to recuperate, regenerate, and revitalize your energy and to improve your well being even when you’re felling down, beat, or exhausted.
By thinking of BJJ in terms of Yoga, you can learn to calm yourself down, relax into movements and poses, and strengthen your entire body and mind even in “weakened” positions.
When you find a training partner who is willing to “flow” with you while you practice, you can immensely boost not only your health, but your Jiu-Jitsu knowledge and skill as well.
Also at Git Right MMA, we discuss mindfulness meditation as a way to fine tune and hone your awareness and attentiveness so that you can be more present and live in the moment and therefore enjoy life more fully.
By practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in a flowing manner with a cooperative training partner and utilizing the concepts of mindfulness, you’ll be amazed at how revitalized you feel leaving the mats, how happy and glowing you are, and how much more you feel “complete” with a nice boost of energy.
Plus as a bonus, in terms of cardiovascular exercise and strength it’s really difficult to exceed BJJ’s benefits in those departments, as it truly utilizes every muscle in your body (including your fingers and toes, neck, and even your lungs!).
