So summer is here. Well at least for most of us and that usually means lighter, fresher and cooler food. Most of the year I do not make or drink smoothies but come summer the hand blender comes out as do all the frozen berries and things that make up smoothies. Here is a short post with some summer smoothie recipes which will help you nourish, cleanse and tone up your body….
Coconut Berry Smoothie
- 200 ml of coconut water
- 1/2 an avocado
- 100 g of frozen mixed berries
- 1 tsp of cinnamon
- 1 tsp if grated ginger
Hemp Banana Peanut Smoothie
- 200ml of coconut milk/water (use coconut drinking milk, not the canned stuff…)
- 2 tbsp’s of hemp protein
- 1 banana
- 1 tsp organic peanut/nut butter
- 1 tsp cinnamon
Post Workout Smoothie
- 200ml skimmed (organic) milk
- 1 tsp of peanut butter
- 1 tbsp of oats
- 100g frozen blueberries
- 1 tsp of coconut oil
- dash of salt
- 1 tbsp of powdered protein (whey, rice, hemp etc – this is optional though!)
So there are 3 easy recipes The first one is a good post endurance or sports drink – something to have after a long run or when you have played sports – the coconut water will help replace electrolytes, the avocado with all of its nourishing fats and vitamin E will speed recovery and the berries, ginger will soothe and ease inflammation.
The second smoothie – hemp banana and peanut is a great breakfast mix. Something to make when you are on the go – its ingredients are satisfying, and the mix of protein, cinnamon, nut and banana make it very tasty. Whilst cleansing your digestive tract and keeping blood sugar stable for hours!
The final smoothie is a post workout mix – it is higher in protein and calories and great for after an intense weight session or any workout for that matter. The coconut oil will help digestion and speed your metabolism whilst the oats and peanut butter will add some calories needed for muscle growth and recovery.
