Willpower, Do you have it? What is it? Willpower is the ability to control or reject unnecessary or harmful impulses, refuse to indulge in unnecessary and useless habits, and the antidote to procrastination (https://www.successconsciousness.com/willpower-self-discipline.html). Willpower is also the strength of will to carry out one’s decisions, wishes, or plans (https://www.thefreedictionary.com). Now that we know what it is, what are you doing daily to increase your willpower towards your fitness goals? Here are some suggestions to get you in the proper mind state to move you closer to your fitness goals.
A key to your success is to be committed because when you start to do something, you are putting energy and effort into it so that you can get a specific result, so make sure you see that used energy and effort fulfilled in the end. Another key is to make procrastination an opportunity for increasing your willpower especially when you know that you need to burn those calories to get that much need weight loss that is going to improve your health and your life. Burn those calories by doing the activity that you know you must do in order to be successful. In addition, have a social network of friends that will support your efforts with positive reinforcements. Stay away from the friends that try to persuade you to miss your workouts and spend more time with them. Make sure your network has like-minded people that are pursuing a goal whether it is fitness related or not because at least they will understand the concept of doing the necessary steps to achieve that goal. When your willpower fails, this failure is not a sign to quit because people with strong willpower realize that they will have to begin again because they have to overcome habits that may have been built up over many years that are difficult to break. A prime example are people that quit doing something “cold-turkey” then have a relapse and do not recover from it. They stay in that defeated state for much too long or even forever and miss the challenge of bouncing back from the failure and growing. The people with the strong willpower in this same example will fail, relapse, recover, and start again until they breakthrough the challenge in their lives. So ask yourself, where is your willpower today?
